About Divine Mercy
"Divine Mercy" names the Catholic devotion to God's mercy toward sinners, given renewed attention in the twentieth century through the reported private revelations of a Polish nun, St. Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), and made a universal feast (the Sunday after Easter) by Pope John Paul II in 2000. The devotion's core conviction is far older than Faustina, however: it is the constant biblical witness that God's mercy is patient, faithful, and never exhausted by human sin (see, for example, Psalm 102/103 and the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15). This app's novena deliberately draws only on Scripture and long-established public-domain Catholic prayers rather than on Faustina's Diary or the specific Chaplet of Divine Mercy text, whose English translation is held under copyright by the Congregation of Marian Fathers and has not been cleared for use here.
